Project Teams Review GFRP Rebar For Corrosion-Sensitive Concrete

Leave a message

Infrastructure teams are paying more attention to reinforcement choices in concrete exposed to water, salts, or industrial chemicals. Fiberglass reinforcement bar provides a nonmetallic option made from glass fibers held in a resin matrix. Its ribbed exterior is designed to engage the surrounding concrete, while the lower unit weight changes how bundles are transported and positioned on site.

A decision should begin with the structural design, not a simple material substitution. The engineer needs to confirm bar diameter, spacing, cover, lap or development requirements, and any limits that apply to bending or field cutting. Project specifications should also identify the accepted product form and the inspection documents required at delivery.

Planning continues beyond engineering. Purchasing teams should state cut length, quantity, color or bundle marks, packing method, and delivery sequence. Site managers then need flat storage, protected cutting areas, and a method for keeping each placement group separate. These steps reduce sorting mistakes before concrete work starts.

The material may be considered for drainage works, hydraulic structures, utility concrete, irrigation facilities, and other corrosion-sensitive locations. Each use still depends on the approved design and site procedure. Early coordination among the designer, supplier, and installer helps the selected reinforcement arrive in a form that can be checked and placed without last-minute changes.
