Simple Checks Before Using Fiberglass Reinforcing Bars

Leave a message

Fiberglass reinforcing bars are different from steel bars, so a few checks should be done before they arrive on site. The diameter, surface type, bar length, and bundle label should match the drawing. Ribbed or sand-coated surfaces are used for bond with concrete, and the surface should not be heavily damaged during loading. Small color differences are normal, but deep cracks, broken ends, or loose coating need to be checked before pouring. If the bars are mixed with other sizes, each bundle should be marked clearly before cutting starts.

Storage is simple but still important. Bars should be kept on level support, away from heavy traffic and sharp edges. They can be cut with a proper saw, but straight bars should not be bent by force. For corners, hooks, or stirrup-like parts, pre-formed shapes need to be ordered in advance. Workers should also check lap length and cover before concrete work, because small mistakes are harder to fix after pouring. These steps sound basic, but they help avoid delays when concrete work has already started.
